A Mix of Religions.
Inside Otokuni Temple (Buddhist) there's a Shinto shrine. In Japan people mix multiple religions into a complex and often contradictory system which doesn't seem to bother them as it would for someone with a western philosophical background. Often people identify themselves with more than one religion. It's common for people to go for blessings at Shinto Shrines as children, have a "Christian"* wedding and a Buddhist Funeral.
* Normally this wedding is not conducted in a real church, but rather a wedding chapel by an actor posing as a Catholic priest or Protestant pastor. It's surprising how much research they've done to copy the wedding service in every detail.
