Dragon Wings Malaysia Airlines A330-300
My first ever fight to Japan was on a Malaysia Airlines A330-300. The first batch of A330-300s that Malaysia Airlines purchased were not anywhere near as well equipped as their B777-200s. Later Malaysia Airlines purchased a new batch of A330-300s that were better equipped than the B777-200s. This Dragon Wings model was based on one of the first batch of A330-300s (rego: 9M-MKC), I sold this model before moving to Japan.
We often flew on Malaysia Airlines between Australia and Japan. Earlier on we more often flew on B777-200s, but later as the newer with better equipped A330-300s entered service they put them on the Perth <-> Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur <-> Kansai routes.
Malaysia Airlines is one of our favourite airlines, the food and service are excellent, even in economy class (which we use, although my wife experienced Malaysia Airlines excellent business class once). We were very saddened by the two tragic crashes in 2014. Because of the downturn in business caused by those events, Malaysia Airlines has cut down the number of flights on the routes we would normally use and we can no longer get a good connection between Kansai and Perth. So, I'm not sure if we'll get the chance to fly on them again.
B777-200s and A330-300s are pretty much in the same market space for airliners, the A330-300 is more fuel efficient on shorter routes, the B777-200 has greater range, so it's often used for longer flights.
