My New Life (in Japan)

On the 7th of November 2008, My wife and I left Perth (which had been my home for 35 years) for Japan on a one way ticket (I have and I do intend to return to Perth for Holidays sometimes). We responded to God's calling to be missionaries to Japan. We are not associated with any Missionary Society. We went to Japan as tent makers, our original intention had been to work as English teachers and serve in an established church here as members. However, after two months here and many trials and tribulations, God enabled us to plant Shining Lights Church together with two other families. We are now Pastoring this church as well as working as English teachers running our own English teaching business. This gallery is mostly for friends and family to see our progress, but anyone is welcome to drop us as a comment and join us on this journey. The Newest Photos are the beginning of the gallery. This gallery is now complete. The sequel gallery "A Stream of Images" is now up.

The English versions of our books Eternity and Back to Japan can now be ordered online from Koorong Books

If you like this please consider purchasing prints, gifts, or stock of these or any my other photos on this site, any money we can earn from these photos helps free up our time to concentrate on our mission work. The watermark does NOT appear on prints, gifts and stock. Thank you.

 • Waning Azaleas.
These azaleas were towards the end of their bloom yet others were just starting. The colder weather this year has spaced out the azalea season.

100yen a plate (105 with GST included).
 • Examples of the Food.
A sign displaying examples of what you get at Kura Sushi which is a 100yen a plate Sushi shot. Normal Sushi is two pieces a plate, better quality is one piece a plate.
 • Blue Mountain Menswear.
This shop know in Japanese as "Aoyama" (Blue Mountain) sells lots of business and smart casual menswear at pretty reasonable prices. After taking a look, frankly I prefer Uniqlo for style, this place wins for customer service.
 • Kura Sushi.
A 100yen a plate (usually with two pieces of sushi on it, or one piece if was really good fish) sushi restaurant, we went to with our church friends.
 • Azalea Colours.
 • Pink Azaleas.
The larger Azaleas are now starting to peak.
 • Sonezaka Street.
Taken while we were walking to our English classes the we teach to employees of a company in Sone each month.
 • Go The Dockers in 2010!
The Dockers are doing very well this season so far. Dad kindly sent me a new poster for the 2010 season. Thanks Dad. We use this poster in the English classes sometimes when talking about sports.
 • Sermon Preparation (Notebook)
As part of the sermon preparations I make notes and cross-references on each of the keywords in this notebook.
 • Children's Day Parade.
Snapped this shot of people bringing a Mikoshi (which is a vehicle carrying a Shinto God) past my house on Children's Day. This kind of thing to me seems like carrying the "Ark of the Covenant", which adds to the Japanese lost tribe theories. While I was watching the procession, one guy in the parade handed me a "Showbag" filled with snacks which I latter shared with some of our primary school aged students.
 • Hub Again.
The British Pub in Kyoto. I'll have to try it out someday, but every time I've been out on these photo shoots I've taken my bike to the station meaning I can't drink, cause the strict DUI rules here also apply to cyclists.
