My New Life (in Japan)

On the 7th of November 2008, My wife and I left Perth (which had been my home for 35 years) for Japan on a one way ticket (I have and I do intend to return to Perth for Holidays sometimes). We responded to God's calling to be missionaries to Japan. We are not associated with any Missionary Society. We went to Japan as tent makers, our original intention had been to work as English teachers and serve in an established church here as members. However, after two months here and many trials and tribulations, God enabled us to plant Shining Lights Church together with two other families. We are now Pastoring this church as well as working as English teachers running our own English teaching business. This gallery is mostly for friends and family to see our progress, but anyone is welcome to drop us as a comment and join us on this journey. The Newest Photos are the beginning of the gallery. This gallery is now complete. The sequel gallery "A Stream of Images" is now up.

The English versions of our books Eternity and Back to Japan can now be ordered online from Koorong Books

If you like this please consider purchasing prints, gifts, or stock of these or any my other photos on this site, any money we can earn from these photos helps free up our time to concentrate on our mission work. The watermark does NOT appear on prints, gifts and stock. Thank you.

I'm always the one who is practical when it comes to hydration!
 • Ode to Ken Rockwell.
If you read a bit of Ken's website you will know he likes photographic his wrist watch for the Macro test! I was a having a bit of problem with my macro focus in the field (probably due to poor light). So after finishing at the Palace, I took this test shoot while at a cafe.
 • The First of the Momiji (Japanese Maples)
While at the Kyoto Imperial Palace Park, I saw my first Momiji in colour change for the season.
 • Better Bokeh in this shot.
The bokeh got smoother as I zoomed in a bit for a close up.
 • Ritsuko at the Imperial Palace Park.
Ritsuko and I went and shot some portraits of each other in front of the autumn colour at the Kyoto Imperial Palace Park.

BTW it wasn't so cold, but I wanted to wear that jacket for the photo!
 • The Plant Ablaze.
The plant which Bob Walker bought for his sermon illustration, goes bright red before losing it's leaves.
 • The last burning is always the brightest.
 • Catching some sun.
The days are getting shorter now, so the cosmos are happy to catch a bit of sun while they can.
