My New Life (in Japan)

On the 7th of November 2008, My wife and I left Perth (which had been my home for 35 years) for Japan on a one way ticket (I have and I do intend to return to Perth for Holidays sometimes). We responded to God's calling to be missionaries to Japan. We are not associated with any Missionary Society. We went to Japan as tent makers, our original intention had been to work as English teachers and serve in an established church here as members. However, after two months here and many trials and tribulations, God enabled us to plant Shining Lights Church together with two other families. We are now Pastoring this church as well as working as English teachers running our own English teaching business. This gallery is mostly for friends and family to see our progress, but anyone is welcome to drop us as a comment and join us on this journey. The Newest Photos are the beginning of the gallery. This gallery is now complete. The sequel gallery "A Stream of Images" is now up.

The English versions of our books Eternity and Back to Japan can now be ordered online from Koorong Books

If you like this please consider purchasing prints, gifts, or stock of these or any my other photos on this site, any money we can earn from these photos helps free up our time to concentrate on our mission work. The watermark does NOT appear on prints, gifts and stock. Thank you.

While a lot smaller than the more famous Shirakawa-go, Suganuma had a more authentic feel to the place than Shirakawa-go which has become way too popular in the last few years.
 • Now that's an interesting way to keep the drinks cool!
 • A Gassho-zukuri house with Flowers.
If you look carefully you can see a microwave dish! Kind of spoils the traditional effect, but I guess it's pretty boring out here so they've go to have some fun...
 • A Dead Cicada.
These are not even the biggest kind you can find in Japan. Cicadas in Japan are huge and loud! When they fly you can mistake them for small birds!

Many shops in Japan have the no photos sign on them and I respect it. However I think shops are silly in doing this, because if people were allowed to take photos of these cool and unique shops some would post them on the internet and even geotag them which is free advertising for the shops. But these shops are just paranoid about people copying their shop layout or products.

An area in Takayama city, Gifu prefecture is nick named "Little Kyoto" because of similar buildings to parts of Kyoto.
